Every two weeks here at The Odd Slipper, we’ll be bringing you “In Her Shoes” - an inside look into the shoe tips & tricks by petite-footed women in fashion.
Meet Christine Petric of The View from 5 ft 2!
How did you get involved in fashion and social media?
I started my blog one night after coming up with the idea, launched it and boom! It was a done deal. I had been inspired to start sharing the same things I share with my friends—deals, my own style, and my personal adventures. I’m so glad I decided to just go for it.
Now that the weather has gotten chillier, are you noticing any new fall shoe trends?
Oh man, I’m swooning over shoes for fall. Too many to choose from! Knee-high boots are still on trend whether it’s with a heel or flat. I’m loving the chunky heel, platform ankle booties that I’m seeing everywhere, too… Especially in a different color or two-toned with wood or gold hardware. I’m seeing a lot of loafer heels too, which are a chic way to keep your work footwear updated for cooler temperatures!
What shoes do you recommend while shopping?
For me, it depends on how long i’ll be out. If it’s an all day event—shop ‘til I drop—I’ll try to gear towards something flat but still chic. If it’s a shorter trip and I want to feel cute or am looking for pants, I will try to wear heels so that I can get an idea of what things will look like when I’m trying them on. I’m always trying to be practical :)
Speaking of shopping, what is your trick for that moment when you find your dream pair, then realize it doesn’t come in anything less than a size 6?
Sigh… This happens so often it’s depressing. What I’ll do is either make a mental note or snap an iPhone picture, then I’ll go home and start checking a ton of websites to see if other brands have something similar, or that I might think have something similar. It can be a frustrating process for sure, but I usually end up having a little bit of luck eventually.
Rachel Zoe famously describes essential basics any woman should have in her closet; can you describe the essential basics any woman should have on her shoe rack?
A classic black heel that’s either a peep toe or a pump; a nude pump; a great pair of shoes and a strappy versatile sandal. I think you can cover a variety of occasions with those shoes—whether it be formal, everyday, or for going out. Every woman should have at least one of them in her closet!
What kind of fashion advice can you give to small-footed women?
Lucky us, because shoes look cuter in smaller sizes! :) Haha, no I’m just kidding. The good news is, I think having smaller feet can be an asset because most styles will look good. You can pull off a crazy platform or a sky high stiletto and also a sweet oxford. Small feet are very versatile in terms of style, but in terms of sizing you may run into some frustration. Don’t fret! Keep searching and enlist some help and you’ll find what you’re looking for eventually!
What styles should petite feet particularly stay away from? Chunky heel? Kitten heel?
Kitten heels are my least favorite shoe… ever. I think all types of feet should shy away from the kitten…
